Smithers is a town located in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, 

approximately halfway between Prince George and Prince Rupert.

Smithers is located in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

With a population of 5,404, Smithers is a service area for most of the Bulkley Valley.

Some history: The Bulkley Valley in which Smithers is situated

was originally inhabited by the Wet'suwet'en, Smithers was founded

in 1913 as the regional headquarters for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway.

The new community was named after the railway's chairman of

the board of directors, Sir Alfred Smithers. In 1921, Smithers became the 

first incorporated village in British Columbia. 

In 1967, Smithers was incorporated as a town. Driftwood 

Canyon Provincial Park, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Smithers was created in 1967.

Winter Scene - Mountains And Dark Clouds Over Smithers British Columbia (3 – Pictures)

My wife and I were in Smithers, British Columbia on December 10, 2015 as I had to pick up some new glasses. 

One of the first things I wanted to do was too take some pictures of the 1,012 pound "Phantom Grizzly Bear" which was shot on Hungry Hill by Conservation Officers and is on display at the Smithers Airport Smithers, British Columbia. If you missed that post, here is the link

So we drove to the airport, I parked the car and ran inside of the airport and took a few pictures. I ran back out, jumped in the car and as we were leaving the airport’s parking lot, I noticed how nice the mountains looked with dark clouds hanging over them.

Mountains Seen From The Coquihalla Summit And Highway British Columbia

Highway 5 is a 524 km (326 mi) north-south route in southern British Columbia, Canada. Highway 5 connects the southern Trans-Canada route (Highway 1) with the northern Yellowhead route (Highway 16), providing the shortest land connection between Vancouver and Edmonton. 

A portion of Highway 5 south of Kamloops is also known as the Coquihalla Highway, the northern portion is known as the Southern Yellowhead Highway. 

The Coquihalla section was a toll road until 2008.

Below Photos: I have added 5 pictures when we were traveling down to my Dad's 90th Birthday in Langley, B.C.. There was my wife, my daughter, son-in-law and my two wonderful grandchildren.

I certainly will take this route again, but this time making lots of stops to take a bunch of photos. The Coquihalla Highway scenery is some of the most beautiful I have seen in the province.

Below Photo: Late the next day after my Dad’s Birthday, we started our drive back to my Daughters home in Kamloops. The daylight was fading, but I tried to take a photo of the mountains, and the moon was in the shot.
